Michelle Herman – Michelle Herman is a fiction writer and essayist, the author of seven books. Born and raised in Brooklyn and educated at Brooklyn College and the University of Iowa Writers' Workshop, she lives now with her husband, the artist Glen Holland, in Columbus, Ohio where she directs the creative writing program at Ohio State.

Michelle Herman’s latest book for adults, If You Say So, is a memoir in essays. Her new advice book for children is A Kid’s Guide to Life – and her first novel for kids, All the Time in the World, is coming in September. The author of nine previous books – the novels Missing, Dog, Devotion, and, most recently, Close-Up; the story collection A New and Glorious Life; and three earlier collections of essays – The Middle of Everything, Stories We Tell Ourselves, and Like A Song – she taught creative writing for many years at Ohio State, where she was a founder and the longtime director of the MFA program in creative writing. Since 2019, she has been dispensing advice every Sunday as a columnist for Slate. She lives in Columbus, Ohio, with her husband, the painter Glen Holland.
